Ghazi Ben Ahmed – PhD Economics, Université Montpellier 1, France, Born April 1st, 1970 – Married, two children.
Ghazi Ben Ahmed has devoted the major part of his life, his work, and his CSO activities to bringing closer the EU and Mediterranean/African partners with a focus on North Africa, through research, analysis, policy prescription and advocacy activities/strategic communication. He worked to enhance regional economic connections in the Mediterranean/Africa region. He advocates for a new blueprint for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership to build resilience and bring hope and prosperity.
Ghazi Ben Ahmed is an international trade expert. He worked in several International organizations such as the European Commission (RELEX, AIDCO and TRADE), UNCTAD (AFRICA Division) and the African Development Bank (Private sector department). After the Jasmine Revolution he coordinated and set up several initiatives such as US LEND (Leaders Engaged in New Democracies) and led the US Initiative “MENA Partnership for Democracy and Development”.
Ghazi Ben Ahmed is currently leading the Mediterranean Development Initiative (MDI), an independent Think Tank born in 2013 in Tunisia and since 2020 based also in Brussels. The objective of the MDI Think Tank is to contribute to the policy making process through independent in-depth analysis on regional integration, international/regional trade, mobility -& migration and finance with a focus on green transition and digital transformation, making the region’s economy sustainable by turning environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all.
